Care built around the person receiving it

ABCare supports adults through the Nova Scotia Disability Support Program, provides home care for families across Halifax, and supplies qualified staff to facilities that need them.

Three ways we work

  • Disability Support Program

Government-funded support for adults with disabilities, delivered under our provincial contract.

    • Both funding routes: managed by you, or managed by us
    • Daily living, health, and community supports
    • Respite, skills development, and housing support
  • Home Care

Private in-home support for individuals and families, arranged around the household it happens in.

    • Personal care, nursing support, and dementia care
    • Companionship, errands, and help around the house
    • Hospice and end-of-life care at home
  • Facility Staffing

Care professionals for hospitals, long-term care homes, and community organizations.

    • Short-term and shift coverage
    • Long-term placements where continuity matters
    • Urgent call-outs and after-hours gaps

Why families and facilities choose ABCare

  • Someone to reach, around the clock

Our helpline is staffed 24 hours. Support needs do not keep office hours and neither does the phone.

  • Staff matched to the person

We match support workers to the person they will be working with, not to the next open shift.

  • A case manager who meets you

You have one case manager who meets you one to one, and stays the same person as things change.

  • Support that can change

When circumstances shift, the plan shifts with them. You do not start the process over.

  • Confidential

What you tell us stays between you, the people you choose to involve, and the people providing your support.

  • Accountable

Everyone working with you answers to your case manager, and you can raise anything with them directly.

How we work

  1. We talk it through

A conversation at home or on the phone about what support is actually needed, and what is already working.

  2. We write a plan with you

A support plan built around the person, their routine, and the people already involved.

  3. We match the right staff

We introduce support workers suited to the person and the work, and you meet them before they start.

  4. We stay involved

Your case manager keeps in touch, and adjusts the plan as needs change.
